Upgrade cabinet door knobs.  We all want a space that feels affordably personal and special.  Your cabinet door knobs and handles are a great place to start.  This bathroom vanity came with standard factory plastic door knobs.  Yawn!  By replacing them with faceted glass knobs, the vanity looks more elegant and could pass for custom.  -July 5, 2010

Add beaded fringe trim to customize lamp shades. This shimmery lamp shade was beautiful, but needed something extra to enhance its personality.

Beaded fringe trim can usually be found at craft stores, or anywhere fabric is sold.  Take your lamp shade to the store so you can compare trims and make an educated choice.  Attach trim to the lamp shade with hot glue or fabric glue.  -April 2, 2010

Greeting cards make great wall art.  Scan your favorite greeting card and save the image on a disk.  Ask your local print shop to enlarge the image to a size of your choice.  Carefully tear away the excess paper.  Attach the image to a blank canvas with gel medium or scrapbook photo adhesive.    Create a finished trim by gluing ribbon around the canvas' edge.  -March 10, 2010

Use color to liven up cabinets. Glass door cabinets can be used to their maximum potential with the addition of interesting paper.  Cover poster board with colorful scrapbook paper, large sheets of embossed felted paper, or textured contact paper.  Adhere the paper with double-sided tape or spray adhesive.  Slide behind shelves and enjoy a new look.  -January 18, 2010

Believe in the power of spray paint. Within a few hours, you can transform furniture, baskets, trash cans, picture frames, lamps, wire hangings, and much more.  Be sure to prime your surface well and protect your creation with a good coat or two of polyurethane.  -January 3, 2010

White wicker wastebasket is now cottage-chic in black.

A spool of ribbon works wonders. Customize plain curtains by adding rows of ribbon along the top and/or bottom.  Use an odd number of rows for a more interesting look.  Simply attach the ribbon with durable iron-on adhesive.  -January 1, 2010
